  Kicking off AmeriCorps Week, the Corporation for National and Community Service today announced the winners of its 2008 competition, adding 68 new grants to help communities raise graduation rates, mentor youth, recover from disasters, and tackle other national challenges.

5/8/2008 AmeriCorps Week Spotlights 540,000 Alums’ Impact and Sustained Service
  The coast-to-coast recognition of AmeriCorps Week, from May 11-18, will spotlight how America’s social entrepreneurs at the national, state and local levels, are tackling high-school dropouts, prisoner re-entry, illiteracy, and other national challenges in partnership with the Federal program that engages Americans in intense citizen service.

4/29/2008 President Bush Honors American’s Armies of Compassion During National Volunteer Week Celebration
  USA Freedom Corps Director Henry Lozano today joined President Bush for a White House celebration of National Volunteer Week, honoring Americans who give of their time to help the less fortunate and create impact in communities at home and around the globe. During an East Room ceremony, President Bush recognized 33 Peace Corps trainees preparing to leave for Guatemala and thanked them for dedicating their lives to serving others. This tradition of hosting Peace Corps volunteers for a formal White House send-off before the trainees leave for their service has been continued by every sitting President since Richard Nixon.

4/28/2008 President’s Council Thanks Youth Volunteers During National Volunteer Week
  On April 28, 2008, more than 40 nonprofit and government organizations joined forces with the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation, USA Freedom Corps, Boys & Girls Club of Greater Washington (BGCGW), and the Corporation for National and Community Service to celebrate National Volunteer Week and the commitment of America’s youth to volunteer service.

4/25/2008 MEDIA ADVISORY: White House Officials, Nonprofit Leaders, and Entertainers to Kick Off National Volunteer Week and Highlight Importance of Youth Service
  On Monday, April 28, the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation, in partnership with USA Freedom Corps and the Corporation for National and Community Service will join the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington (BGCGW) to kick off National Volunteer Week and celebrate America’s commitment to civic service. Actor Stephen Baldwin, singer Michael W. Smith, and other President’s Council members will join White House officials and nonprofit leaders in highlighting the importance of youth service and recognizing youth volunteers.
